What is spoken-word poetry?

Spoken-word poetry is defined as “a performance art that is word-based. It is an oral art that focuses on the aesthetics of word play and intonation and voice inflection.” Through frequent rhyming, inter-word relations, and speed of delivery, spoken-word poems deliver hard-hitting pieces about change, personal life, or the world around us. Think Hamilton without the music.

Synopsis

A hard-hitting piece about a dystopian society in which love has been eradicated for the sake of peace, the characters question the importance of controversy, love, and freedom of speech. The play follows the fictional life of Amber, a high school student who agrees that love should be synonymous to treason - until Amber falls in love with her best friend, Blake Colby.

"I originally wrote “Love is Blind” as an Original Prose and Poetry for Speech and Debate, but with my passion for spoken-word poetry and theatre in hand, I wrote an hour length version" - Aiko Lozar, Author.
